According to Twitterholic.com - I joined twitter exactly 1 year ago today and it's been quite a year! I first joined Twitter after @calilewis raved about it on Geekbrief.tv and featured the "Twitter in Plain English" video (below) by the people at commoncraft.com.
At the time, I was the team lead on a Help Desk of 10 and based on that video, I saw Twitter as a way for the team to get to know each other better while getting to know a service that was becoming wildly popular. And voila an addiction was born!
While none of my team members really took to Twitter, I became the "Twitter-er" of the group. I even spend a good portion of my time trying to convince my manager and CIO that, since we were in an industry based on building connections/relationships (really, what industry isn't?), Twitter was a technology/service we could not ignore. My efforts were fruitless there but I personally have gained so much through tweeting that I've never regretted joining.
It's hard to believe that just a year ago, I was having to explain to people what Twitter is and why I thought it was such a big deal. Now, it seems everyone has either heard about or is on Twitter - especially with the hoopla surrounding @oprah's joining - and that has everyone wondering if Twitter has jumped the shark. While I'm not convinced that it has, I have noticed the SPAM like accounts progressively increasing which is making me change my follow back policy. But that's a post for a different day ;-).
